Training

As applied scientists, we recognize that factors facilitating sustainable implementation are poorly understood. Our goal is not to simply train and move on to an endless array of independent sites. We seek to understand processes that ensure sustainable implementation with fidelity to the core dimensions that make the intervention effective and collect data from each training program we conduct. Our assessment of your local service infrastructure, funding, caseload and targeted population is essential to achieve a sustained implementation with high fidelity.

We require a long-term commitment to PMTO. Considerable time is spent developing a plan for training therapists, future local PMTO coaches and fidelity raters. Our goal is for every client to become an advocate for evidence practice in their service area and we will work with you to plan future training programs of successive generations of PMTO therapists trained by your organization’s own PMTO coaches.

After the initial assessment we train the first generation of PMTO therapists in the client’s service area. A typical training program will include 6, 3 day workshops, the theoretical foundations of PMTO, its main and supporting components, and practice with fictive and actual cases. Once the first generation of PMTO therapists has reached certification we will assist in selecting future local PMTO coaches and fidelity raters and train them to work with mental health care professionals in your service area. These PMTO mentors will become part of an international network of PMTO coaches and fidelity raters.

PMTO certification indicates only that the certified person may provide PMTO services at the level of certification. Certification, by itself, does not constitute or create a license or right to treat patients or clients.
